Be More Monday – Andrea Kennedy

Andrea Kennedy always knew she wanted to do something that mattered. When she was growing up, she wanted to be a teacher, a doctor or even an environmentalist. Luckily for the kids treated at the University of Kansas Health System, Andrea became a child life specialist.

A child life specialist helps pediatric patients and their families navigate all aspects of hospitalization from diagnosis education to procedure preparation. Being in the hospital can be scary, and Andrea helps kids and families cope.

When she isn’t at work, you can find Andrea tearing up the softball field or sand volleyball court with friends! If she cant be out doing something active, Andrea is watching those sports or the Kansas City Chiefs. If she needs a break from sports, she is also a fan of the Gilmore Girls or picking up a good book (To Kill A Mockingbird is her favorite). All of these hobbies can served up with a side of Mexican food, and followed up by a chocolate dessert!

We often only see health care professionals like Andrea when they are serving others, and we love getting to know more about what they do when they get a minute to themselves! While caring for others is their profession and their passion, Andrea and the entire KU Pediatrics team are more than just their job titles! Thank you Andrea, for everything you do to help Kansas City kids!
